This gallery contains assorted pictures of forest and plantation fires in Northern Riau, Sumatra, Indonesia, taken in 2005. Note the typical fire spread pattern in the plantation area. Forest residuals have been stacked or "wind rowed". These wind rows contain a lot of dry fuel. The fire spreads along the rows up to 45 degrees from the main wind direction. |
